The 2017 Taiwan-Japan Joint Research Conference on Sabo was held in Taiwan from 12 to 18 November 2017 by the Chinese Soil and Water Conservation Society and the Taiwan Disaster Prevention Society etc., with 12 participants including officers of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism from Japan.

On November 13 in the Symposium on Sediment Disasters at the Chung Hsing University, the special lecture of Mr. Lee, Section Chief of the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau, the Council of Agriculture was provided, and then 4 reports from Japan, 2 reports from Taiwan were presented and discussed.
On November 14, the 2017 Taiwan-Japan Joint Research Meeting was held at the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau, 3 topics were offered from both sides respectively, and discussions on them were implemented.

As a field trip, the conference members visited the affected areas of landslide in BaoLai Zhulin on November 15 and the affected areas of debris flow in Taitung on November 16 and 17. These disasters were caused by the Typhoon Morakot.

And after the symposium, Dr. Chen, Li-Jen, Technical advisor of the Disaster Prevention Research Center, the National Cheng Kung University was awarded a letter of appreciation for his long term contribution to Japan-Taiwan technology exchange on erosion and sediment control from Dr. Abe, Director of International Sabo Association.
