A collaborative study of erosion control between Japan and Taiwan has been continued for 17 years since 1989, and discussions based on work sites have been made by visiting each other's country every year.

On Friday, August 11, "2006 Erosion Control Technology Exchange Conference," with the main theme of measures for water pollution of Shihmen Reservoir, which was hosted by Water and Soil Conservation Dept. of the Executive Yuan and the Chinese Institute of Water and Soil Conservation was held in Nantou City, Taiwan (at the conference room of Water and Soil Conservation Dept). Invited by the host, five members led by Mr. Takahisa Mizuyama (Professor of Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University ) took part in this conference from Japan . During the conference, results of investigation and research were presented on two themes by Japan and three themes by Taiwan , and a lot of opinions were exchanged enthusiastically. Before the conference, a tour was conducted to the sites, including the upstream area of Shihmen Reservoir, Shoufengxi, Fenglin, Fengyikeng (within the jurisdiction of the 6th process, Hualian), Fengqiu, and Shang'an (within the jurisdiction of the 3rd process, Nantou), and opinions about prevention of sediment-related disasters in Taiwan were exchanged.
